Batman’s Gadgets

Batman has no powers so instead of flight or super strength he uses Wayne Enterprises wide range of gadgets supplied by Lucius Fox.

In the beginning Batman only had his trade mark bat-a-rang but now he uses a wide range of gadgets including several different bat-a-rangs. The best example of Batman’s gadgets would be the game Batman Arkham City where he uses a batclaw, freeze grenades, a hacking device and a explosive gel, and that is only to name a few.

In many movies and comics Batman uses a rope gun to swing from buildings, this gadget has become as common as his bat-a-rangs.

My faverout gadget is Batman’s glide cape simply because it makes him look like an actual bat and it allows him to nearly fly. It also comes in very useful in the games and the scenes in the movies when you see him gliding off buildings and into buildings are great to watch. Batman has not always had this gadget, one of the early examples of the glide cape is in the movie Batman Returns when he flies over all of the people in Gotham after he has been framed for murder.

Can Batman Be Defeated

My friend recently showed me a website where people pit to fictional characters together and see which one would win. The one that he showed me was Batman vs Spiderman and to my displeasure Batman loses. Straight away i was like that would never happen purely because I am a Batman fan, but even after a while now I still think Batman would win because when have I ever seen him lose in the past?

Throughout the many years that Batman has been around he only seems to get tougher with every re-boot or version. To begin with Batman does not have super powers, he is just a man in a bat-suit and this really shows in the first issues. Batman does not do much that would stand out in modern day heroes but as time has gone on Batman has recovered from a broken back, taken hundreds of bullets and defeated the entire Justice league. Not only that but he even beats Superman in a one on one in Hush but only because he uses Superman’s weaknesses against him such as kryptonite and the fact that Batman is (as he puts it) not a good person and Superman is.

One of the reasons why Batman didn’t win against Spiderman is that he isn’t given time to plan and that is why he lost but if he had time to plan he would of won, but in Arkham City Batman has no idea what the enemy is and he still wins in the end. Also in The Return Of Bruce Wayne he has his memory wiped and he still manages to get back to normal time without Dark Seid winning.

One of the only times that i can think of when Batman is defeated is when his back is broken by Bane in Knightfall, even then he comes back from his injury. Also after Knightfall the same happens In The Dark Knight Rises. Batman has his company sold, his back broke, he has to climb out of a prison and he is stabbed, even after all that he still wins and saves the whole city.

This may only be my opinion but to sum it up I would say Spiderman has a chance against batman from about 50 years ago but today’s Batman, he wouldn’t stand a chance.

Evolution of the Batmobile

The Batmobile first appeared as a red convertible, it had no hidden gadgets or anything special to it. The Batmobile would go through many changes before it appears as it does today.

The Batmobile’s colour changes from red to black and in most comics and movies it has two bat wings on the back. This gives it an iconic look.

The Batmobile also gets given lots of different gadgets in later versions of the car such as booster jets, rope guns, machine guns, bullet proof glass, bullet proof armor and grenades.

When the car first appeared in the comics it was simply known as Batman’s car but then it was given the name the Batmobile. In The Dark Knight Returns it is mentioned that Dick Grayson (Robin) came up with the name. In Christopher Nolan’s movies it is called the tumbler.

In the live action TV Batman series the Batmobile was a customized Lincoln Futura concept car. In Time Burton’s Batman the Batmobile is powered by a Chevy V8 and the body is custom built. In Christopher Nolan’s Batman the Tumbler is completely built from scratch.

I don’t know which Batmobile is my personal faverout because there are literally thousands of different ones and besides i’ve always liked the Bat-Plane better.

Batman Arkham Asylum/ City

Batman Arkham Asylum is one of DC’s greatest succeses. The game set the bar for great superhero games and many others try to follow but never live up to the orgional. The game took what made Batman great and used all of these factors to create a great game, however not all of these ideas came from scratch. A lot of the game comes from Batman the animated series.

Both arkham city and asylum are like the next step from the cartoons, each is darker and more serious but they keep a lot the same such as voice actors, both Batman and Joker’s voice actor returns to voice the main characters and this gives you a good feeling that the cartoon is still present. Mark Hammil who voices the Joker in both games and the cartoon asked if he should change the voice to suit the darker tones of the game but he was told to keep it the same as the one in the cartoon. There are also references to the cartoon such as the animated series batman costume. Also Harley Quinn plays a big part in both games and she was invented in the cartoon.

The reason why I connect these two is because the cartoon was what I watched as a child and to see it being celebrated in one of the best games is great. I cannot wait for the third game to be brought out.

The Long Halloween

Batman The Long Halloween was writen by Jeph Loeb and tells the story of a mysterious killer murdering people in Gotham on certain holidays. It also takes on Harvey Dent’s transformation from Gothams DA to the criminal Two Face. The thing that this comic did differently was that it made Harvey Dent’s transformation more physcological than befor. This made you feel sorry for him and this changes your views of him as a character instead of just a villian.

This comic was also a large influence for Christopher Nolan when he made his Batman trilogy, especially The Dark Knight because that shows Harvey Dent as a more sympathetic character.

This is honestly one of my faverout Batman stories and with the sequel Dark Victory it only gets better. The way that this comic changed Batman is how it was the inspiration for The Dark Knight (possibly one of the highest grossing Batman films).
